Frigo® Cheese Heads® doubles the deliciousness of typical onion strings by combining Panko-crusted, baked onion strings and cheese strings for the ultimate grab-n-dip snack.
1 large onion, cut into thin “strings”
1 cup buttermilk
2 cups flour
2 eggs, gently whisked (more may be needed)
3–4 cups panko (more may be needed)
Salt and pepper, to taste
4–6 Frigo® Cheese Heads® String Cheese sticks, peeled into strips equal to the amount of onion strings
(Don’t forget the dip! Ketchup, ranch or whatever pleases you!)
Preheat the oven to 450°F.
Soak the onion strings in the buttermilk while preparing the rest of the ingredients.
Lightly coat a baking sheet with cooking spray.
Now, the fun begins! We’ll be tossing and shaking!
Use three large bowls. Fill one with the flour, one with the eggs and one with the panko (with added salt and pepper, if desired).
Tip: Keep one hand dry for dipping in the flour and panko, and use the other hand for dipping in the egg.
Place a portion of the onion strings into the flour, gently shaking the bowl to coat them. Then, remove them from the flour, dip them into the egg bowl until they’re covered, remove them from the egg and dip them into the panko bowl (shaking the bowl to coat).
Remove them from the panko and lay them on the baking sheet.
Repeat the process, alternating between Frigo® Cheese Heads® String Cheese and onion strings, until finished.
Bake them until they’re golden brown, approximately 12–15 minutes.
Dip in ketchup, ranch dressing or your favorite dip!
